Apple’s new iMac M4 is the first product from Cupertino to ship with Apple Intelligence. However, new software for iPhones, iPads, and Macs will also enable the same set of AI features on eligible models. These are the first wave of AI features from Apple, and the company is also currently testing the next set of Apple Intelligence, which is expected to launch by late 2024 or early 2025.
Right now, Apple Intelligence is only available for iPhones powered by the A17 Pro, A18, or the A18 Pro chip, which includes the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Make sure to install the latest iOS 18.1 update to experience the first wave of Apple’s AI features.
iPads powered by Apple Silicon M1, M2, M4, and A17 Pro are eligible for Apple Intelligence, including the newly introduced iPad mini. Users need to install the iPadOS 18.1 update to experience Apple Intelligence on supported models.
The same also goes for Macs with the M series of chips, which includes the very first MacBook Air with the M1 chip to the latest MacBook Pro models with the M3 chips. macOS Sequoia 15.1 will deliver Apple Intelligence on supported Mac mini, iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro models.
However, it is not as simple as installing a software update. After updating your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the latest software, users need to join the waiting list from the Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri menu, and depending on the device and location, it could take a few minutes to a few days to get access to Apple Intelligence.
The first set of AI features from Apple includes an enhanced Siri (without ChatGPT integration) and new writing tools. Apple is using AI to offer capabilities like rewriting, proofreading, and editing suggestions with explanations for the suggestions.
Similarly, Apple Intelligence can also summarise notifications, and users can now remove unwanted subjects and backgrounds using the Clean Up tool on the Photos app.
iOS 18.1 update is also introducing a native call recorder on iPhones, even on the models that do not support Apple Intelligence.
There is a trick to enable Apple Intelligence in India right now
If you don’t want to wait until 2025 to experience Apple Intelligence, simply change the device language from English (India) to English (US) on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and you can join the waiting list to experience the features instantly.
