Adobe Photoshop’s beta version, which has been steadily gaining generative AI features as part of its Firefly integration, has just been treated to a major update that will make it more accessible and powerful than ever. The app now supports text prompts in over 100 languages and received a new feature called Generative Expand. To recall, Firefly is a generative AI platform that enables users to create realistic and diverse images with simple text commands. It was first integrated into Photoshop in May, with the launch of Generative Fill. Now, Photoshop is taking generative AI to the next level with Generative Expand, a new workflow dedicated to expanding images beyond their original bounds. Users can seamlessly resize any image by clicking and dragging the Crop tool, and Photoshop will fill in the new white space with AI-generated content that naturally blends with the existing image. Users can also use text prompts to specify what kind of content they want to add to the expanded image, such as "add a mountain range" or "add a blue sky". Photoshop will generate multiple variations for users to choose from, and add them non-destructively in a new Generative Layer. Adobe says that Generative Expand is ideal for situations where users want to adjust the aspect ratio, align the focus, or extend the background of an image. It can also be used for creative experimentation and ideation, as users can explore different scenarios and compositions with generative AI. With Generative Expand, users can spend less time editing and more time creating and adapting their images for their own creative needs. To access the updated language prompts and Generative Expand, users can start a free trial of Photoshop or update their Photoshop (beta) app today.
