Apple has introduced the latest generation of its popular watch – the Apple Watch Series 10. The standout feature of the Apple Watch Series 10 is that it can, for the first time, now alert you about a major health condition affecting over a billion people around the world – sleep apnea. This is a serious condition where an individual’s breathing stops repeatedly disrupting sleep. It is one of the biggest health challenges as over 80 per cent of people with the condition are undiagnosed.
“Sleep plays such a vital role in our overall health and well-being, and people with sleep apnea can experience excessive daytime tiredness, have difficulties concentrating, and be more irritable if left untreated. Sleep apnea can also have significant consequences on your health, including increased risk of hypertension, type two diabetes and cardiac issues,” said Dr Sumbul Ahmed Desai, vice president of Health at Apple.
The all-new Watch Series 10 uses the accelerometer to monitor a new metric during sleep called breathing disturbances. Users can view their nightly values in the health app which can help them better understand the restfulness of their sleep every 30 days. The new Watch Series 10 will analyse the breathing disturbance data and alert the user if it shows consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea.
The all-new Watch Series 10, which comes with a revolutionary health feature, is also one of the most refined Apple Watch ever. The latest model replaces stainless steel with titanium with incredible strength and weight ratio. The new watch weighs 20 per cent less than its predecessor in stainless steel. The watch case is made using aerospace-grade titanium as polished to a mirror-like shine and comes in three colours, natural, gold, and dark slate thread.
When it comes to aesthetics, the watch sports an elegant Milanese loop and classic link bracelet to complement the titanium finishes. The uninterrupted lines of the case back and watch band celebrate the beauty of metal to complete the metallic look. The reflection face has an intricate, shimmering dial that reacts subtly to one’s movements and transitions gracefully to Always On mode.
Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, describes the Series 10 as softer, sleeker, and more streamlined than ever. It is Apple’s first wide-angle OLED display, with each pixel emitting more light, making it 40% brighter and improving visibility. The wide-angle OLED display is also extremely power-efficient.
The sleek shape, expansive display, Sapphire front crystal and sophisticated finishes make series 10 the most refined expression of the Apple Watch yet. The Watch Series 10 joins the lineup of Apple’s next carbon-neutral product. It is made with 95 per cent recycled titanium and manufactured with 100 per cent renewable electricity to reduce emissions from transportation.
The new Apple Watch Series 10 is just 9.7 mm thick and almost 10 per cent thinner than Series Nine. According to Apple, achieving this new thinner profile required them to miniaturise internal modules further. It features a speaker system that has been engineered to be 30 per cent smaller without any compromise on the acoustics. The speaker now lets you play music and podcasts directly from the watch.
Apple Watch 10 starts at $399 and the cellular version costs $499. Those in Australia, Canada, France, India, Japan, the UAE, the UK, and the US and over 49 countries and regions can pre-order the Apple Watch Series 10 today, with availability in stores beginning Friday, September 20. In India, the Apple Watch Series 10 starts at Rs, 46,900.
