One day after clinching gold in javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships, world champion Neeraj Chopra on Monday tweeted out his feelings on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“World Champion. What a feeling. India, this is for you. जय हिन्द,” Chopra who had thrown 88.17m to finish first, posted.

On Sunday, Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal in the World Championships which was the only missing trophy in his decorated cabinet.

Besides the Tokyo Olympics gold, he has won the yellow metal in the Asian Games (2018) and Commonwealth Games (2018). He has also won four individual Diamond League Meeting titles (two each in 2022 and 2023) apart from Diamond League champion’s trophy last year.

He also became junior world champion in 2016 and won the Asian Championships title in 2017.

After match, the very modest Chopra refused to term himself as the “greatest of all time”. “I will never say this, the greatest of all time. People say that just the world Championships gold is missing. I won it now but I have many things left to do and I will focus on that. I would not like to say this (greatest of all time),” he said in a post-match press conference.

“If you want to say greatest of all time, it would have to be like Jan Zelezny,” he said in the context of world record holder in javelin.

Zelezny is the legendary Czech Republic javelin thrower, who holds the world record of 98.48m and won three Olympic and three World Championships gold. He is also Chopra’s idol.
