    Indian Heaven Premier League in Kashmir accused of failing to pay cricketers

    Indian Heaven Premier League, a private cricket league in Srinagar, has run into troubles mid-season after players and hotels accused the organisers of failing to pay the dues. Organised by a group called Yuva Society Mohali, the IHLP had around 50 players, including the likes of Chris Gayle, Jesse Ryder and Praveen Kumar. The league came to a halt on November 2, on the tenth day of the tournament, after some players protested over non-payment of dues. When the players tried to leave the hotel, they were stopped by the staff, who claimed that they had uncleared bills worth Rs 51 lakh. Read more

    Court allows Ketan Parekh to travel to UAE after depositing Rs 27.06 cr with SEBI

    A special court in Mumbai on Wednesday allowed the 2001 stock market manipulation scam accused Ketan Parekh to travel to the UAE. Parekh had sought permission to travel to the UAE to attend the wedding of a relative and also wanted to have a family vacation in the UAE. The court allowed the former stockbroker to travel to the UAE this month after directing him to first deposit Rs 27.06 crore with SEBI. In September, Parekh had sought to travel across multiple countries over four months, which was rejected by the court. Read more

    UPS plane crashes at Kentucky’s Louisville airport, leaving 7 dead

    At least seven people were killed and 11 others were injured after a large UPS plane crashed during takeoff from the airport in Louisville, Kentucky. UPS Flight 2976, which was on its way to Honolulu from the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky, crashed around 5:15 pm local time. According to a statement by UPS, three crew members were onboard the plane that crashed in Louisville. Read more

    Democrat Mikie Sherrill elected governor of New Jersey

    Democratic Party candidate Mikie Sherrill on Tuesday was elected governor of New Jersey. Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot and four-term member of Congress, defeated Jack Ciattarelli, who was endorsed by US President Donald Trump. Ciattarelli called Sherrill to congratulate her on the results. Sherrill will be New Jersey’s second female governor, after Republican Christine Todd Whitman. Her victory also gives Democrats three straight gubernatorial election wins in New Jersey, the first time in six decades that either major party has achieved a three-peat. Read more

    Yogi hands over 72 EWS flats built on land seized from Mukhtar Ansari

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday handed over allotment letters of flats to 72 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) families on land recovered from late mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari and his family in the plush Dalibagh locality of Lucknow. The government had demolished buildings owned by Ansari’s family in 2020, alleging they had illegally grabbed the land. Speaking after inaugurating the flats at the housing complex built under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Awas Yojana, the CM said this event was not just about distributing houses but to send a message that the land grabbed by the mafia will now become homes for the poor.
