Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has defended out-of-form Suryakumar Yadav, who has got out for hat-trick ducks in the recently-concluded ODI series against Australia.

In the third ODI in Chennai, Suryakumar Yadav, who batted at number four in the first two ODI was demoted to number seven. However, the change in batting position did not change the luck of the batter as he again got out on a first-ball duck.

“Every sports person goes thru ups & downs in their career! We’ve all experienced it at sum point. I believe @surya_14kumar is a key player for India 🇮🇳 & will play an imp role in the #WorldCup if given the opportunities,” tweeted Yuvraj Singh.

“Let’s back our players coz our Surya will rise again.”

India captain Rohit Sharma also had backed Suryakumar Yadav, who has struggled to find his mojo in one-day cricket after a dazzling run in T20 format.

“We don’t know about (Shreyas) Iyer’s return. At this time there is a spot available so we have to play him (Suryakumar). He has obviously shown a lot of potential with white ball and I have said it many times before (that) guys with potential will be given some run,” Rohit had told the media after India’s 10-wicket defeat to Australia in the second ODI.

After the third ODI, When asked about Surya’s form in the post-match conference, Rohit said: ““He only played three balls in three (games) this series. I don’t know how much to look into it. He got three good balls, to be honest.”

Surya has joined an unwanted tally of Indian batters who have been dismissed on golden ducks for three ODIs in a row, also including Sachin Tendulkar (1994), Anil Kumble (1996), Zaheer Khan (2003-04), Ishant Sharma (2010-11), Jasprit Bumrah (2017-2018).
