Smriti Mandhana breaks record for most international runs in a calendar year

In India’s recently concluded T20I series win over West Indies, she had also set the record for most runs in a calendar year in women’s T20Is, scoring 763 runs in 2024. She also broke the record for most 50+ scores in women’s T20I cricket in the series decider on Thursday.

Mandhana overtook South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who has ended her year with 1,593 runs. The southpaw has two more ODIs against the West Indies left to play this year. The 28-year-old had herself claimed the record in 2018 before losing it to Nat Sciver Brunt in 2022.

India finished the first innings on a good footing 314-9 batting first on Sunday. It was not only Mandhana’s exploits, but a team contribution to take the total past 300, with solid scores from Harmanpreet Kaur (34 off 23), Harleen Deol (44 off 50), Richa Ghosh (26 off 12) and Jemimah Rodrigues (31 off 19) Kaur (34 off 23), Harleen Deol (44 off 50), Richa Ghosh (26 off 12) and Jemimah Rodrigues (31 off 19).
