Former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid’s younger son, Anvay, scored his maiden hundred for Karnataka in the Vijay Merchant Trophy on Friday.

Batting at the DVR Ground in Mulapadu, Dravid junior’s hundred was instrumental in Karnataka taking the first-innings lead over Jharkhand Under-16 and earning three points in a drawn contest. Playing as the wicket-keeper, Anvay walked in at No. 4 and remained unbeaten on 100 off 153 deliveries on the back of 10 fours and two sixes. Karnataka were bolstered by a fine start in reply to Jharkhand’s 387, with openers Arya Gowda and skipper Dhruv Krishnan securing hundreds during a 229-run stand.

The match marked Anvay’s third innings in the Vijay Merchant Trophy that began last week, following 75 runs from the previous two innings, including a half-century. Last year, Anvay was named the captan of Karnataka in Under-14 age-group tournaments.

In 2020, Anvay made headlines after scoring a brilliant fifty in the he semi-final of the BTR Shield Under-14 Group I. He fell short of his hundred by just 10 runs.

Anvay’s elder brother, Samit, also represented Karnataka successfully in age-group tournaments for Karnataka over the years. In September, Samit was named in the India Under-19 team for a series against Australia U19 at home. Samit, however, could not feature throughout the series after suffering a knee injury. Samit will miss out on the 2026 Under-19 World Cup after having turned 19 recently.

Samit though has been among the runs and wickets. In the Cooch Behar Trophy earlier this year, he made 362 runs and took 16 wickets in eight matches during Karnataka’s title-winning campaign. Samit also featured for Mysuru Warriors in the Maharaja Trophy in August.
