Rahul Dravid with historian William Dalrymple. (Photo: Twitter/@DalrympleWill)India coach Rahul Dravid is apparently such a big fan of the Empire podcast that he is making players of the Indian cricket team listen to it too, claimed historian William Dalrymple, who is one of the co-anchors of the podcast.
The Scottish historian tweeted on Friday that the Indian coach had requested a meeting with him and had told him how much he liked the podcast.
“And what a modest, charming and charismatic gent he is,” added Dalrymple in his tweet, where he indicated with a hashtag that the was star-struck on meeting the former India cricketer.
So this was a bit of a surprise: just summoned to meet Rahul Dravid who says he's a big fan of @EmpirePodUK & has got his whole squad listening to @tweeter_anita & I blagging on about imperial history! Who knew? (And what a modest, charming & charismatic gent he is.) #starstruck pic.twitter.com/EsdsAuxVZs

Empire is a podcast hosted by Darlymple, along with Anita Anand. The first series was a 20-episode deep dive into the British rule in India: from the origins of East India Company to the fascinating journey of the Kohinoor Diamond and Uddham Singh’s quest that spanned continents to assassinate Michael O’Dwyer, who was the lieutenant governor of Punjab at the time of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar.
Replying to one of the comments to his tweet, Dalrymple, who is also the co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, also said he would be open to collaborating on a podcast on the history of cricket.
