Agha: We actually wanted to bat first. Wanted to put an above par score and try to restrict them. But it doesn't matter now. We have played six games here. It's usually a high-scoring venue. One change, Shaheen is not playing unfortunately and Wasim replaces him. It'a not been a typical Pindi pitch so it's hard to tell (a good total) but we will try to restrict them to as less as possible.

Dasun Shanaka's side made 3 changes with Vijayakanth Viyaskanth making his debut and Janith Liyanage as well as Kamil Mishara coming in. Pakistan made one change with Shaheen Afridi sitting this one out in favour of Mohammad Wasim Jr.

When it comes to the upcoming schedule for Sri Lanka, they'll are next play a 3-match T20I series against England, starting from January 30 and go on till February 3. Then they will host the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 along with India. For Pakistan though, their next T20I assignment is currently slated for the aforememntioned T20 World Cup.

Ahead of this Tri-series, the last T20I series that Pakistan played was against South Africa at home which they won 2-1. Before that series, they played in the Asia Cup which was also in the shortest format, coming up short against India in the final. They also played another Tri-series ahead of the Asia Cup featuring Afghanistan and UAE and won the whole thing.

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka and Asitha Fernando will return home from the Pakistan tour due to “illness”, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on their X handle without specifying what the illness was. SLC said that the two players will not take part in the upcoming tri-series featuring Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe. The board added: “This precautionary decision ensures they receive proper care and sufficient time to recover ahead of future assignments.”

This comes on the heels of reports from the Sri Lankan camp less than a week ago where as many as eight Sri Lankan cricketers were said to be scared for their safety and eager to return home after a suicide bombing in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, killing 12 and wounding 27 outside a district court building. At that point, the SLC had stepped in, and “instructed all players, support staff, and team management to continue with the tour as scheduled.” The Sri Lankan board had also issued a threat of a “formal review” in case any players or staff member ignored its directive and abandoned the tour.

The two Asian sides have met each other 24 times in the T20I format with Pakistan winning 14 matches wghile Sri Lanka have won 10 matches.

Hosts Pakistan will look for 2 wins on a trot as they take on a Sri Lanka side which is looking for their first win of the tournament. Both teams have played one match each with the same opponents in Zimbabwe but to vastly different results. Pakistan won their match by 5 wickets but Sri Lanka inexplicably went down to the African nation by 67 runs, getting shot out for just 95 runs while chasing 162.
