Former India World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni and the 2011 ODI World Cup Player of the tournament, Yuvraj Singh were named among the five Indians to have been inducted with the Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) honorary life membership on Wednesday.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce our newest cohort of Honorary Life Members of MCC, as we prepare for the new international summer. The names that have been announced today are some of the greatest international players of modern times, and we are privileged to now count them as valued Members of our Club,” said the MCC Chief Executive & Secretary, Guy Lavender.

Dhoni had lead India to the T20 and ODI World Cup triumphs while also winning the 2013 Champions Trophy as captain. The former keeper batter had featured 538 international games across formats, scoring over 17,000 runs during the same.

Yuvraj Singh was also an integral part of the Indian team that won the first T20 World Cup in 2007 and the home World Cup in 2011. In South Africa 2007, Yuvraj made a mark with the bat, scoring six sixes against England and a 30-ball-70 vs Australia in the semifinal. In 2011, the southpaw’s contribution was with both the bat and the ball.

Also part of the 2011 winning World Cup squad was Suresh Raina, who stitched together a crucial fifth wicket partnership with Yuvraj to knockout the defending champions in the quarter final. Another vital contribution from Raina came in the semifinal against Pakistan.

Among the former India women’s cricketers, former India captain Mithali Raj and veteran pacer, Jhulan Goswami were also honored by the MCC. The duo had called it quits to their international careers in 2022 after India’s early exit from the ODI World Cup. While Mithali remains as the top run scorer in women’s ODIs with 7805 in 232 games, Goswami is the leading wicket taker in the format with 255 scalps.
