While Krishna recorded his best figures (4/62) in a Test match for India, Siraj became the leading wicket-taker of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Rain had forced an early Lunch on day 1 of the fifth Test, after which early Tea also had to be taken due to incessant drizzle.

India vs England 5th Test Updates: STUMPS!
Akash Deep, sent in as night watchman, has done well to stay out in the middle as England desperately chased another quick wicket to bring out India captain Shubman Gill.
There is a chat on between England's stand-in captain Pope and umpire Kumar Dharmasena. We still have 15 minutes to go. But light is fading. And after the light-meters comes out looks like Pope was offered the option to bowl spin only.
But he declines, knowing fully well that Jaiswal loves to play against spin and could punish them.
So we have stumps on day 2 at the Oval with India 75/2. Jaiswal is on 51 from 49 while Akash Deep is on 4 after playing two balls.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: GONE!
Unlike Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan cannot make the most of his second life as he departs for 11 after being LBW off Atkinson. India take a review, but it's wasted. Was hit on the back pad. England players were actually urging him to take a review and he took the bait.
After the review does not go his way, he has a chat with Duckett before Brook intervenes and breaks it up
Sai Sudharsan lbw b Atkinson 11 (29b 1x4 0x6) SR: 37.93
India vs England 5th Test Updates: 50 up for Jaiswal
Jaiswal has made his two lifelines count as he gets to his 50 with an IPL-style shot over the keeper's head for a six! He's reached there in just 44 balls. Short ball that Jaiswal just guided over the ropes despite the presence of a deep third fielder.
Yashasvi Jaiswal 51* (44b 7x4 2x6)
India vs England 5th Test Updates: ANOTHER DROP
This time it's Crawley at third slip who hands Sai Sudharsan the gift of a lifeline. The ball catches his thumb and before the fielder could close his palms on it, the ball was gone!
THREE DROP CATCHES ALREADY FROM ENGLAND. TWO DROPS IN TWO OVERS. Sai was on seven runs!
The Indians run three runs after that drop and see out the over without too much drama.
IND 64/1 after 15 overs
India vs England 5th Test Updates: DROPPED AGAIN!
After being dropped by Harry Brook when on 20 runs in second slip, Jaiswal gets another life as he's dropped on 40. This time it's Dawson at deep fine leg. Jaiswal hooked that one. The ball was heading straight at him. It was flat and with a bit of speed. Seems like Dawson didn't spot the ball maybe due to the sun or the lights.
Jaiswal survives a second time! How costly will that be?
India vs England 5th Test Updates: GONE!
Josh Tongue gets KL Rahul's wicket as England have their first breakthrough. Rahul has been one of the most consistent batters for India in this series, but he falls after opened the face of the blade and Joe Root takes a nice catch!
Rahul departs after scoring seven off 28 balls.
India are 46/1 after 9.5 overs
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Jaiswal's welcome for Overton
Jamie Overton is introduced into the attack by England after eight overs and Jaiswal decides to welcome him to the middle with a hook shot that flies over the ropes for a maximum.
It was Overton's second short ball of the over, and it seems like Jaiswal was rueing not throwing his bat at the first one. SO made up for it on the second one.
IND 41/0 after 9 overs
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Rahul almost gets run out
Massive chance as KL Rahul almost gets run out there. After hitting the ball to point, Rahul and Jaiswal decide to got for a risky single.
Thankfully for Rahul, Duckett doesn't pick up the ball cleanly. He throws it under-arm. Rahul dives to get in. If the ball had hit the stumps, Rahul was gone.
IND 34/0 after eight overs
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Huge shout!
Tongue bowls an over-from-hell to KL Rahul, who plays and misses over and over again. On one delivery, there was a massive shout as the bowler thought that Rahul had edged the ball. The umpire is not convinced. The England captain is not convinced enough to call for a review. And replays show the ball nicked the pad as it went to the keeper.
What an over from Tongue.
He's conceded just six runs from his three overs. His bowling partner Gus Atkinson has been the leaky one, giving away 21 runs off his three overs.
IND 28/0 after six overs. Rahul has scored three of those runs, while Jaiswal is batting on 24 off 19 balls thanks to six boundaries.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: DROPPED!
Jaiswal, the man in hot form, is dropped by Harry Brook when on 20 runs in second slip after the Indian throws his bat trying to drive the ball and gets an edge instead. The ball was high, it was flying. But that should have been taken!
To make matters worse, the ball ends up going to the fence at deep-third boundary. And it's that boundary that helps India take the lead.
IND 26/0 after five overs with Jaiswal scoring 24 of those runs!
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Solid start form Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal is off to a flyer! 12 runs off 12 balls already in the first three overs of India's innings. The highlight of this short burst was the second over when Jaiswal punished Atkinson, hitting him for three boundaries.
Jaiswal's batting like a man who has a flight to catch. KL Rahul, meanwhile, is batting like he has all the time in the world: no runs from his first nine balls. He's letting everything go, forcing Tongue and Atkinson bowl at the stumps to make him play.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Brook gone, England innings ends
Harry Brook's innings ends as he drags on the ball to the stumps. Brook departs for 53. Siraj has his fourth wicket of the innings. He has been the pick of the Indian bowlers, even if Prasidh Krishna has the same number of wickets.
Siraj also becomes the leading wicket-taker for the series after he picks up Brook. 18 wickets for the bowler with the next two bowlers in the race --- Stokes with 17 and Bumrah with 14 --- not playing in this game. Josh Tongue is also on 14 wickets.
So England have a slender 23-run lead.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: 50 for Harry Brook
Harry Brook has his half century off 57 balls with England leading by 21 runs. Five fours and a six in that innings from the England batter, who's now standing between India batting for a second time in this rain-interrupted Test match.
And Brook needs a change of bat after that innings.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Play restarts after rain stoppage
This rain interruption must have been a welcome break for the three Indian pacers --- Siraj, Krishna and Akash Deep -- who bowled their hearts out for 46 overs against England. Jadeja has bowled just two overs.
But that break's over. Prasidh Krishna has the ball, Brook on strike.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Rain stops finally
So the rain had stopped for a while, then it restarted, and now the final covers have been taken off and play is expected to resume at 9.55 pm if there is no more rain!
For now, there is no rain. We see visuals of staff members of England on the ground with folded umbrellas as the covers are taken off!
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Rain could be around longer
Former India cricketer Varun Aaron, who is at The Oval for commentary duties, says on JioHotstar that there is a thick cloud cover in the air. So the rain might end up having a big say with how the rest of the day goes.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: RAIN!
The game is halted as the drizzle gets harder at The Oval. England have a lead of 18 runs.
Harry Brook is still in the middle with 48 runs off 49 balls. Prasidh Krishna has taken four wickets while Siraj has chipped in with three wickets.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: GONE!
Atkinson departs after a short 16-ball stint in the middle. Tried to pull a ball, and ended up handing the fielder at mid-on a simple catch. Prasidh Krishna has another wicket, his fourth of the innings. England have a lead of 11 runs at the moment. John Tongue comes out to join Harry Brook in the middle.
Three slips and a gully in place for Tongue as Krishna chases his five-for. This is already his best bowling figures in Tests for India.
Gus Atkinson c Akash Deep b Prasidh Krishna 11 (16b 2x4 0x6) SR: 68.75
India vs England 5th Test Updates: How will Harry Brook go about it?
It will be interesting to see how Harry Brook will approach this innings from here on. He has hurt India already in this series before, and he has got a start too. As we update the scores, are level. Gus Atkinson can bat, he does have a Test ton, so it is important that India plays this a bit carefully at times. Teams when they get to the lower order of the opposition, tend to get too casual with things, and India in the past have had many such cases. With the game right in the balance, India need to ensure they don't concede a lead of not more than 50 as this wicket will only get trickier and trickier.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Welcome back
We are back for the final session. The previous one saw six wickets fall and we might see even more in this one. The pitch has behaved quite differently and Mohammed Siraj with the ball to has been quite magnificent and it is his spell that opened up this game for India. Plenty of action coming up do stay with us.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: In 13 overs, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett turn into agents of chaos to give England headway
Akash Deep had just conceded three boundaries in an over, England had reached 84/0 in 11 overs. The pacer stood stunned on his bowling run-up. It was only when wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel and the entire slip cordon, having walked from the other end, started to take their position around him that he realised he needed to walk back to his field-position at fine leg. The English openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley were responsible for the Indian team’s collective 13-over long brain freeze. The frame Akash Deep staring blankly into nothingness captured it. (Read more from Sandeep Dwivedi)
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Prasidh Krishna picks Jamie Overton at stroke of Tea, ENG 215/7 vs IND in London
Well, Prasidh has picked up another one at the stroke of Tea. It was an incoming delivery to Jamie Overton who tried to play a shot on the leg-side and missed it. India has picked up six wickets in this session, what a turnaround this game has seen. Not only are they right back in it now, but they also have a chance to take the lead in the first innings. And England are a batter short, Chris Woakes is injured and he will not take any part in this Test match, so India need to pick two more wickets and we might see them batting again by the end of today. Do stay with us, we will be right back after the Tea break.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Krishna picks Smith
Well Prasidh Krishna has picked up a wicket here. It was a bit of nothing shot from Jamie Smith. He flapped at one around fifth stump line and the ball was flying and KL Rahul at slip took a lovely catch. India are getting back into the game. They have picked quite a chunk of wickets in this session.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Jadeja is the first
Ravindra Jadeja is the first spinner Shubman Gill has turned to. Although Washington Sundar has bowled, Gill has decided to go with Jadeja here, it might have to do with two right-handers in the middle. There is a steady breeze across the ground going which might make Sundar quite effective. Or we might also see a double change from Gill here. We might see Sundar too come from the other end, from Siraj's end who has bowled a quite a bit of spell in this session. Brook and Jamie Smith though, are talented might not be accustomed to facing the kind of bowling Sundar does.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Siraj picks 3
Siraj is in the middle of a magnificent spell here. He has picked up Bethell now, it was a fuller one which moved in late, and Bethell had no clue about it and was plumb in front. He did not bother to review either as he walked away. He is opening this game, Siraj. It did feel like England were going to run away with it, but this passage from Siraj has been quite exceptional. It might be time Gill brings back Prasidh from Akash Deep's end, as he bowled quite a bit. One clear thing we do see is how differently Shubman Gill uses his pacers when he doesn't have Bumrah playing.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Workhorse
Well, Siraj has found new life in this spell here. He was a bit all over the place in that morning session, but in this one he has been able to hit his mark and in fact his wobble seam has scramble seam have been quite threatening. One must give credit for his stamina to keep coming in and bowl his 100 per cent day in and day out. He played all the games in Australia, and he is playing all the games here and despite that today as of now he is running and bowling at that high 130s and touching 140s too. He is in good rhythm but at some point Gill has to take the ball out his hand.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Siraj picks Root
Mohammed Siraj has picked up Joe Root It was an incoming delivery from the bowler yet again. They have kept trying to through the afternoon to Root to get that sort of dismissal, but they did not get it right on that action, things went to plan for Siraj. It was a bit like Pope's dismissal, where the ball after pitching moved late. Root did review the decision, and it did seem like it might be missing, but Root was way back in the crease, and the ball was hitting the wickets. England has now lost four wickets. This has been an excellent passage of play for India.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: No spin yet
32 overs have been bowled in this innings so far, and not even a single over from spinners yet. The likes of Akash Deep are more effective when the ball is new and will lose their potency as the ball does get old, but Siraj and Kirshna have their tools to use even when the ball does get a bit old. Especially Siraj, who is very good with reverse-swing. The amount of bowling these seamers are bowling might tire them out going deep into the game. Siraj, especially has done a lot of work already in the series, and he, in the overs that have been bowled once again, has done a lot of work it might be time Gill considers bringing in spin into the attack.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Water break
It has been India's passage; they have managed to pick up a couple of wickets so far, but in the last 10-15 minutes, they have leaked a few boundaries and have drifted down the pads of Root. Dhruv Jurel came up to the stumps on a few occasions and has also moved back trying to make sure batters don't bat outside the crease to negate any moment. There is quite a bit of mixing and matching going on from Gill, like always, he tends to swap ends from bowlers tinkers a few things on the field quite regularly, but sometimes things do come off and sometimes it seems restless.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Caution
India needs to be slightly careful against Root here. Although there was a bit of spice between Root and Prasidh when he walked in, India also managed to bowl a few loose deliveries to him first up, and he has been able to get a start. With the form he is in the outfield at this ground he can score runs quite quickly here. Akash Deep is the one who is operating at the moment with Siraj. Deep has the ability to pick wickets with his line, but his pace in the bursts after his opening spell does drop down significantly, and we have Jurel standing up to the stumps will help by not letting Root stand out of the crease to negate that moment.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Pressure on England
India has managed to put on some pressure on the England batters here, and they need to keep that pressure going. They are getting some momentum and the fielders have found their voices again. There is that bit of moment which is helping them with odd ball doing way too much for the batters to deal with. Especially, Prasidh is bowling very well he is able to get that moment from different areas of the pitch, and the wicket seems like it will only get worse from here. We might have a scrap fight in the final innings, and any lead is a good lead for England.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Siraj comes back and gets wicket
Mohammed Siraj has come back into the attack and picked up the wicket of Ollie Pope here. It was a wobble seam delivery from Siraj, which moved in sharply, and Pope was in the land's man, trying to flick the ball on the leg-side, was not ready to deal with that amount of incoming moment. Things are happening quite quickly here in this session. In the morning session, India did find it hard but in the noon session, with a bit of cloud cover, India was able to manage to get a bit more nibble in the air. Prasidh, especially from the other end has been quite exceptional.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Good bowling and wicket
It has been good bowling from India since lunch. They have hit their targets, and also as Duckett is gone, there are no more fancy shots from England at the moment; they are playing more conventional cricket. The good bowling from India has resulted in the wicket of Zack Crawley, who was looking for that fuller ball to drive, and was delivered a short one, which he did not find his timing and was caught by the mid-wicket fielder. Also, after the wicket Joe Root has walked in, and very early on his innings, Prasidh and Root got into a heated banter which the umpire intervened and stopped.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Flipping narratives
The longer this series went on, narratives have flipped. In the initial games, both Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were able to deliver good starts to India but as the tournament went on, it became the opposite they have started to struggle Jaiswal, espically, has tappered off, but both Crawley and Ben Duckett have started to pick up the form. If the openers get to the starts, it helps the middle order very much espically in conditions like these. We have seen Shubman Gill did enjoy quite a bit of success in the first part of the series and we might see Ollie Pope and Joe Root get into thier own now.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Prasidh and Akash resume
Prasidh and Akash resume for India after Lunch here. They have been quite consistent, but it was England's counter-punch that has put India on the back foot today. We have seen a similar pattern in Manchester as well, once the initial punch is delivered the England players tend to settle into a pace to make a big score. In this sense, they do slow down a bit and become lot more circumspect and start playing each ball on its merit. Also, a catch has been dropped of Pope who tried to play one through point and a gully fielder just spilt it.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Welcome back!
We are back for the afternoon session here in the Oval. It is going to be an important one and will give an indication of where this game might head. India have to come up with a plan to counter the English batting here as they are looking to eat away at that lead quite quickly.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Pitch report by Pujara
There was lot of dampness yesterday which has caused some footmarks. This is a pitch that will be challenging for the batter. There is enough for the seamers but at the same time the England seamers didn't bowl really well. They were very wayward and that is what the Indian seamers will look to correct whenever they get to bowl. This pitch won't get easy to batting as the Test progresses either.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Head to head

India vs England 5th Test Updates: Red flags
The Indian cricket team's dissatisfaction with the ball-change protocol during a Test series in England. The team's management reportedly complained to the ICC match referee, alleging that England received preferential treatment in choosing balls and that a replacement ball provided during a match at Lord's was significantly older than the one it replaced, despite protocol stating it should be of similar age. India vs England 5th Test Updates: ENG 109/1 at Lunch and trail by 115 runs vs IND in London
That's the morning session done and dusted, and it has been England's morning. They have quickly picked up the remaining four wickets of the Indian side, and then Crawley and Duckett have batted quite magnificently. England are in a superb position in this game at this point in time, and the break for India came at the right time. They need to reassess things, think about how they want to go about the plans post Lunch session, as all the bowlers are bleeding thanks to that initial counterpunch. We will be right back for the afternoon session, do stay with us.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: 50-for Crawley
There is still a bit of help for the bowlers on this wicket, but what that England opening partnership did is put the Indian seamers on the back foot, and also Shubman Gill has had to opt for more defensive fields than the aggressive ones because of the counter-punch as we update Crawley gets to his half-century here.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Deep gets Duckett
Akash Deep gets the wicket here, finally. Duckett, who kept scooping the ball, missed one for a change. Akash Deep changed his angle and came over the wicket, and usually there tends to be a blind spot for left-handers when the bowler comes over the wicket and which is what seemed like happen. He gloved it straight to the keeper, and there was a bit of send-off from Akash as he put an arm over Duckett's shoulder. It was quite a calm reaction from Duckett, considering he just got out. Ollie Pope has walked into the middle for England.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Thrashed all over
Indian bowlers are getting thrashed all over the park here. Crawley is playing very freely. His driving has been immaculate, and in the previous over, he just hit a couple of boundaries over the cover fielders. It was sort of an inside-out shot against Akash Deep. The Indian seamers have to come up with a plan here. England are scoring at 7s and they don't have too many runs to play with. This is more or less a similar situation they found themselves in Manchester. It might be time Gill brings his spinners into action. Sundar especially has been superb with the ball.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Ends swapped
Akash Deep has swapped ends here. Prasidh Krishna has been brought in from his end. It is important that Krishna bowls line and length instead of banging it short, which is how the team management has opted to use him at times in the series. He is more than a competent bowler to pitch the ball in good areas and pick wickets, but just to make him look as a point of difference, India have made him bowl short, which did backfire quite a bit. As of now in this game, they don't need him to do that because the pitch has enough help for the seamers, but Indian bowlers are being counter-punched by England here.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Excellent start
Well, the England openers have got to a start here. The thing about making small totals as India did here is that a quick start like this can take the game away in very quick time. Seven overs into the innings, England have already put up 50 runs on the board. Ben Duckett, trying to upset the rhythm of the bowlers, is playing all sorts of T20 shots here, which is putting Indian bowlers in quite a bit of backfoot. As we update, Prasidh Krishna has come into the attack. He is the point of difference in this attack for India, both Siraj and Akash are line bowlers Krishna, similar to Tongue, can be quite erratic but also can bowl that peach of a delivery.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Deep in rhythm
Akash Deep has started well. He looked in good rhythm, nibbling the ball around Ben Duckett's pads; however, Duckett equal to the task, was trying to disturb the length of the bowler with a few antics. He charged one down the track and on another occasion, he reverse-scooped Deep. It is turning into an interesting contest here. Not too often do we see Duckett be troubled with a certain bowler but Deep with his accuracy and that Shami-like ability to make the ball kiss the pitch and skid through quicker seems to have caused Duckett a lot of trouble.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Siraj on pads
Siraj has been straying on the pads too often here against Crawley. It is the same mistake the Indian side committed in the previous game; however, on that occasion, it was Anshul Kamboj to Duckett, but today it has been Siraj to Crawley. He is looking to get that ball around off-stump and middle stump, and moving from there, but he has not been able to control the seam position. As per Akash Deep, he started well in that opening over but wickets are the currency here for the Indians. They don't have too many runs to play with.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Siraj and Deep start
Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep have taken the new ball. No surprises there. India has to bowl well they were quite ordinary when they started in Manchester. They were straying the balls on the pads, which were easily flicked away by the batters for runs, and they need to avoid that today. Siraj, in that opening over once again struggled to get adjusted to the left-hand right-hand combination of Zack Crawley and Ben Duckett and gave away a couple of loose ones which the batters did slam for boundaries. India dont have too many tuns to play with here they have to be careful.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Four wickets in 30 minutes
Well, that is quite a tame ending for India; they lost four wickets in that morning session. The conditions are very conducive to bowling, and Indian seamers will be happy that they are getting their opportunity to make the most of these conditions. The likes of Akash Deep and Siraj have wreaked havoc when they bowled as a pair and they can repeat the same. As per Prasidh Krishna, he has been good in patches, but today these conditions will be well-suited. We will be right back with India's bowling innings. Do stay with us.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: India 224 all out
India has lost another wicket here, and it is Mohammed Siraj. Atkinson pitched the delivery on good length and Siraj was found in no man's land with the drive, and the ball cleaned his stumps. England has now picked up three wickets in 30 minutes. There is a definite zip in the wicket then yesterday. It was a bit damp, hence the ball was stopping a bit, but today things have been superb. India won't mind this there is lot to work with for the fast bowlers especially the likes of Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj will love the conditions as they are now. As we update Atkinson picks up the final wicket of Prasidh Krishna.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Two wickets in two overs
England has the early breakthrough here. The ball, despite being 66 overs old, moved a long way into Karun Nair and hit his pads. It looked plumb, and the umpire did give him out; however, Nair decided to send it upstairs, and there were three reds on the ball-tracking. The moisture in the wicket today will let the ball seam a lot, and because of the rain we had there will be a bit of swing too. Having said that, Nair drove it too early, made up his mind to straight drive as soon as he saw the length instead of playing it later. Akash Deep is the new batter for India. As we update, Atkinson picks up Washington Sundar.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Tongue and Atkinson start
It is Josh Tongue and Gus Atkinson who started the day for England. The conditions today are a lot kinder to batting, the sun is out. We did see the bowlers get a bit of moment yesterday, how much they will be getting today will be interesting to see. Also, Ollie Pope has a big challenge on his hand with Chris Woakes ruled out of the Test match, he has to make do with the bowlers he has. Good thing is all of them are fresh and are playing the game for a while, but on the counter part England are short of a bowler in this game which India can capatilise on.

India vs England 5th Test Updates: BREAKING NEWS
India vs England 5th Test Updates: What did Ben Stokes say ahead of game?
"Yeah, it's been a tough, gruelling series, but it's class to play. It's a real test of character, it's a test of physicality, all that kind of stuff. And I think that the way in which both teams have, you know, fronted up every single day and every single session and given everything for their countries is testament to how much this format means to England and India and every other team in the world."
India vs England 5th Test Updates: Changes in the Indian side
Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Anshul Kamboj and Shardul Thakur missing out while Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep and Karun Nair making it to the XI.
India vs England 5th Test Updates: West Zone squad for upcoming Duleep Trophy
Shardul Thakur (Capt), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Aarya Desai, Harvik Desai (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Jaymeet Patel, Manan Hingrajia, Saurabh Nawale (wk), Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Dharmendra Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande, Arzan Nagwaswala
India vs England 5th Test Updates: What did Gill say before the game?
"If you look at the kind of cricket that we have played, sometimes the scorecard of the series doesn't determine that. I think every match that we have played, it was very difficult to decide which team is going to win after four days of cricket. If we are able to do that for every match, for four matches coming outside of India with a relatively young team, I think it is going to be a big achievement for us if we are able to level the series.
