(FILE)Despite the general election, the dates for which were announced on Saturday, the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League will be held in the country in its entirety.
“Complete IPL will happen in India only. BCCI is working on the full schedule and will make it public soon,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told The Indian Express.
The election will be held in seven phases, starting April 19, with the counting of votes on June 4. The BCCI had faced a similar situation during the 2019 general election but the IPL was held in India.
Shah, in the press release announcing the schedule for the first 21 IPL games from March 22 to April 7, had stated that the BCCI will soon finalise the schedule for the remainder of the tournament.
“As in the past, the BCCI will work closely with government and security agencies, following all necessary protocols and advisories related to the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in India. Once the dates for the 18th Lok Sabha elections are announced, the Board will review and address any issues pertaining to the schedule of the first two weeks. Subsequently, the BCCI will work in tandem with local authorities to finalize the schedule for the remainder of the season, taking into account the polling dates,” Shah had said.
The IPL teams have begun their preparation and players have started joining their respective teams. The opening game of the season will be played between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers of Bangalore in Chennai on March 22.
