India vs New Zealand 3rd Test Day 3 Highlights: NZ beat IND by 25 runs and win series 3-0 in Mumbai

Yeah, absolutely, you know, losing a series, losing a Test is never easy, not easily digestible. Again, we didn't play our best cricket, we know and we accept. They did so much better than us. We made a lot of mistakes and we'll have to accept it. We didn't put enough runs on the board in the 1st innings and we were behind in the game, here, we got a 30-run lead, we thought we were ahead, the target was achievable, we had to do better though. You want runs on the board as well, that's something that was there in my mind, it didn't come off and when it happens, it doesn't look great. There are certain ideas on my mind when I go to bat, but in this series, it didn't come off and that's disappointing for me. Those guys showed how to bat on these surfaces, you've got to be ahead and be proactive, we are playing on such pitches in the last 3-4 years, we know how to play. But this series, it didn';t come off and that's going to hurt. Also, I wasn't at my best with both bat and as a captain, that's something that'll rankle me. But, we didn't perform well collectively and that's the reason for these losses.

Seriously special to win a Test match at such a historic ground and also the series. Pretty special against a World Class Indian team. We knew the surface is turning pretty big so we wanted to put pressure on the bowlers and with the ball put it in the right areas. We are a bunch on Kiwis taking on the world and representing the country. We know how good India are. Mighty proud of the group today.

Ajaz Patel picks his sixth wicket and India gets whitewashed in the home series for the first time since 2000. It has been an extremely poor chase from them. Apart from Rishabh Pant not even a single batter looked like they had their approach right or method fixed to play on these conditions. This loss is not just a dent in WTC points but also a black mark on Rohit Sharma the captain. November doesn't seem to be the month for Rohit as captain. Congratulations to the New Zealand side it will be one of the greatest Test victories from their perspective. 

India lost two wickets in quick succession first it was Ashwin and then it was Akash Deep. It is Glenn Phillips who took two wickets in quick succession Mohammed Siraj has walked in with India needing 26 runs still to get. Phillips is on hatt-trick. It seems like New Zealand is going to create history here unless Sundar has something else in mind. Another poor batting effort from India. Questions must be raised of techniques and India's ability to play spin and the personal who are being picked in the name of attacking cricket. This series seems to be more than a blip here. 

We had an incident here. The ball went through Ashwin and almost rolled onto stumps and Ashwin managed to slow down the pace of the ball before it hit stumps and he got lucky that the bails did not come off. That was heart-in-mouth stuff. The scoring rate has gone down significantly since the wicket of Pant. India will be looking to take 10 runs at a time in this game from here. There are still not a lot of runs to get and both these batters are capable enough however, the worrisome thing for India is what is to follow. It is turning into a humdinger here in Mumbai. 

Ashwin needs to play a handy cameo here and he is used to playing innings like these in these circumstances. Yes, the pitch is turning square however, he has the defensive acumen to deal with things. Washington Sundar on the other hand also is capable of playing in these conditions but here it is a pressure of different levels on him. A spare of thought only if Ajaz Patel could do this much damage imagine what Santner could have inflicted if he was not injured. It is something to ponder upon and India needs to up their game against spin if they are willing to roll out surfaces like this. 

Pant has departed here. The batter danced down the track to fend off one and got the edge and the keeper took the catch. Pant did have a conversation with the umpire about what had transpired but there was a spike he had to walk back. Now India is in trouble here. Ashwin has come into the middle it is the last pairing for the Indian team who can bat and bat well against spin. India need still about 30 runs to get and both Ashwin and Sundar here have to bat sensibly. Wonder if it might be a good time to introduce the pace of O Rourke for a couple of overs against Ashwin who had his troubles. 

We have had a couple of iffy moments 10 minutes into the session the first one came when Sundar pushed the ball to close-in cover for a quick single and Pant almost got himself run out and then the latter tried to go down the track and whack one through long-on however, the mistime ensured that the ball went through cow-corner and then a delivery from Patel brushed the Pant's pad and went to Mitchell and Blundell convinced Latham it came of bat and sent it upstairs only to find out there was no pad involved whatsoever. Nervy moments these New Zealand are feeling the heat.

It will be the final session of the game. Either India will get there or New Zealand will have the last laugh. The break came at the right time for New Zealand just when it felt like Rishabh Pant was taking the game away from New Zealand the clock ticked 11:30 and it was lunch interesting to see what tactics New Zealand came up against Pant because the batter would play only one way here.

That's lunch. Rishabh Pant went past his half-century. In an innings, this has been from the batter he has a habit of scoring difficult runs in chases Pant and is doing so here once again. On a pitch which is turning square he has been the one batter who seemed to have found a competent method to counter the bowlers. He has been brutal against Ajaz Patel who has been New Zealand's best bowler. Still 55 runs to get for India, and New Zealand is not out yet while India has come back in the session with a few boundaries in the end it has been New Zealand's session. We are 10 minutes away from lunch for the next session and it will be the final one of the game. New Zealand would be happier for the two sides. India needs a partnership here. In low chases like these, all it will take is a couple of partnerships to get there. However, the problem for India is it has not happened. A couple of years back against Bangladesh in Chattogram India was in a similar situation when Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer got together to bail them out. And Pant along with either Sunar or Ashwin needs to build a similar partnership here. 

Ravindra Jadeja trying to work the ball on the leg side got the inside edge which went to a short-leg brilliant catch from Will Young. India has lost six wickets now. It was a good partnership while it lasted but India is still only halfway there. Every wicket that will be falling from one end will add further pressure to Pant from the other end. Four wickets now for Ajaz Patel. Washington Sundar has walked into the middle he batted well in the first innings and needs to do the same. A 50-run partnership will kill the game from an Indian perspective. 

In addition to Rohit and Kohli's form, India needs to sort out a middle-order slot as well. Yes, Sarfaraz Khan did score a lovely 150 in Bengaluru but since that, he has strung on a few low scores. It is not just the scores but the way he got in the situations he was in is a bit concerning. In Australia the conditions will be completely different from what he has faced here yes, the pitches will be better for batting but does he have the game for high pace and extra bounce is something to be seen. Another option India has for that slot is KL Rahul who is a hit-and-miss and always has been.

Ajaz Patel has been brilliant yet again today. He picked up three wickets already in this innings he looked a bit iffy in Pune but here he is back to his best. Tom Latham did not use much of Ish Sodhi in the first innings but given the way this pitch is playing, there is a case for him coming in early. Especially Pant is attacking and Ish Sodhi has a reputation of being a good white-ball bowler and bowling him for a few overs might bring a result. Even William O Rourke has not bowled just as a variation it would be not a bad ploy to bring him in for a couple of overs just as point of difference from Phillips' end. 

Rishabh Pant has made his intentions clear here. He is going after the bowling. For every ball he has intended to either sweep or go down the ground. It is a risky ploy but given the game situation,, there is not much he can do. This is the risk of having turners. The final innings chases can become extremely difficult. 147 should be chasable while it might be tricky but India should get there under normal circumstances however, this batting group has been low on confidence for a while now. Wonder what the coaching staff and dressing room will be thinking at this point in time the batting issues have been far too evident.

India has lost another wicket since the last update. It was a full toss from Ajaz Patel Sarfaraz tried to sweep the ball got the top edge and went straight to Rachin Ravindra at square-leg. India has now lost half their side they have been bowled out under 100 once before the series and looks like they are en route for another one. They need someone solid in the middle order does this Indian batting order. While attacking cricket is fine on days like these they need someone with good defense who can pick and choose their moments to attack the bowlers. 

Virat Kohli has departed. It is Ajaz Patel's delivery that spun and took edge straight to Mitchell. Kohli too who has been in poor form has departed. India has lost three wickets within 40 minutes of the chase and there are a lot of runs to get. It is not looking good for Indian fans New Zealand will start now believing that they can whitewash India. It is concerning that two of the most experienced players for India are going through a barren run. While it is more a mixture of bad luck and poor shot selection from Kohli with Rohit is even more complicated. As we update Yashasvi Jaiswal departs India lose four. 

Well, Ajaz Patel bowled one on the off-stump and the ball turned in slightly to hit the off-stump of Gill. It is a poor leave from the batter. While leaving on these pitches against spin is not something unusual he did seem like left the off-stump exposed and it was not a sharp turn either it just did enough and Gill should have been able to deal with it. New Zealand have now picked up two wickets and are on top of the game here. Virat Kohli has walked into the middle and India needs a partnership here. It is not going to be easy batting on this patch, especially for the new man. 

Rohit Sharma has departed it is once again a poor shot from him. He tried to pull the ball and did not get anything on it and was caught by Glenn Phillips by mid-wicket. The nightmare home run ends for Rohit. It has been a forgettable season for him. It is not just some rash shots that have caused his downfall but also some technical flaws that seem to be creeping into his game. He needs to sort his issues before going to Australia as it might be a long summer Down Under for him if things go south both as captain and player himself. 

We are done with the first over Rohit was troubled by a couple of incoming balls and if anyone would have wondered what he did after that you folks are right. He danced down the track and hit Henry's good-length ball over mid-on. Well usually Rohit even taking his chances looks graceful when not timed well but that shot looked like one of the batters trying to hit his way out of a difficult spell. If anyone did not know about Rohit's poor form that boundary is an indication of it. It is a challenge for the Indian skipper from a team perspective and from a scoring perspective also. 

Ashwin and Jadeja start the day for India. The pitch is turning square there are no two ways about it. It is going to be a tricky chase for India. However, first, they have to break this partnership. Rohit Sharma is having fielders on the boundary which might be a bit questionable because it is just the start of the day and both batters are not still in. Hence it is important that Rohit keeps man in and asks batters to hit boundaries. Ajaz has been more established of both. As we update Ajaz lofted one straight to deep fielder Akash, New Zealand are now all out. 

Day three of this Test match and this game has come a long way. 14 wickets, 15 wickets and I am pretty sure that day three is going to produce a result. New Zealand have the option of using any of the rollers or not roll it at all. If you use a heavy roller, it becomes much slower in nature. If you use a light roller, it tends to bind it up and keep it as quick as it is. But New Zealand could do the clever thing and not take a roller at all which would mean the pitch will have natural disintegration. There is the opportunity for two rolling sessions to happen - one NZ could take it and soon after, before India's batting, they have the opportunity to take the roller as well. That's a very interesting part of today's play. Let's come to something that's even more interesting, this pitch. This pitch has produced a lot of wickets, simply because of the abrasive nature of how this pitch has been in the top layer. There's a lot of dryness hence there's been a lot of turn, the odd one going straight but it's been consistent turn and that's the Mumbai pitch where there's consistent turn and a lot of bounce. If you were a bowler, you'd agree you could bowl from any of the ends and I feel there's enough happening in both the ends. But if I had to suggest, I'd say the commentary box end has produced a lot more wickets for the spinners. But that doesn't mean from the pavilion end, not too much is happening. Probably not as abrasive as this side because there's a little more rough in front of the batter. Batting on both ends is going to be hard work and the bowlers will enjoy bowling here. Ajaz is going to be the threat for India, simply because of the lengths that he bowls and how he slowed up. That's where the left-handers are going to be key for India. Yesterday in the pre-lunch session, there wasn't too much effect of Ajaz Patel because of how Rishabh Pant played. So if the left-handers come and play him aggressively,  I think India can cruise home
