There has been sharp criticism thrown at Rishabh Pant for the shots he played in the Melbourne Test in both innings. In fact, in the second innings, his shot against Travis Head triggered the collapse.

Indian coach Gautam Gambhir, when asked about what is his take on the natural game versus playing the situation, said, “There is only one tendency and there is only one discussion it is the team first that ideology that matters it is the team sport you got to play according to the team needs. People can play their natural way but in team sports, the team comes first. In team sports, individuals only contribute. Some honest words are what I can tell and honesty is essential you probably want to go on and achieve great things.”

“Every individual knows in what areas to work on and it is not like that I am going to name any individuals here ultimately you win as a team and lose as a team. When someone plays for India his intention is to give his maximum effort. Unfortunately, you are only worried about results. There are conversations between the coach and the individuals in the dressing room and they should stay there,” Gambhir added.

“There hasn’t been any discussion about today. We are all disappointed. Pant needs to understand what is required from him. More than anyone else telling him. He needs to understand what is required,” Rohit told the reporters after the end of the fourth Test.

“As a captain, you know, it’s very hard to have a conversation when, you know, it has given him a lot of success as well. But it’s about him figuring out, you know, what is the right way to do things. In the past also, we’ve had a lot of conversations. So, in terms of conversation, there is no way I can say that I have not had a chat with him or he doesn’t understand what the team expects. He understands that. But the things that he does give him results as well.

Alongside Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli too has been under the scanner for his tendency to chase the balls outside the fourth stump and nick off to the keeper or the slips.
