While we are a couple of days away from the launch of the much awaited autobiography of Sachin Tendulkar, the release of some excerpts from the book title ‘Playing it My Way’ has only made the wait a never ending one.

There were always rumours in the media that the little master would pen his thoughts post retirement, but the official word came on the 2nd of September, 2014.

The build-up

When Tendulkar wanted to quit cricket:  Not long after the series (West Indies) was over, I (Sachin) confided in Anjali that I feared there was nothing more that I could do to stem the tide of defeats. Tendulkar, Chappell and captaincy: Just months before the World Cup, Chappell had come to see me at home and, to my dismay, suggested that I should take over the captaincy from Rahul Dravid. Anjali, who was sitting with me, was equally shocked to hear him say that ‘together, we could control Indian cricket for years,’ and that he would help me in taking over the reins of the side.
