Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre ended 2024 by setting a new world record – becoming the youngest player to score 150 in List A cricket – during his knock of 181 in the 189-run win over Nagaland in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Though the two perished in the space of seven deliveries and Saurashtra pegged them back with the wickets of Anmolpreet Singh, Nehal Wadhera and Naman Dhir, Anmol Malhotra and Sanvir Singh chipped in with unbeaten 48 and 40 respectively to give the perfect finish to the Punjab innings.

Chasing a humongous total, Saurashtra delayed the inevitable with Arpit Vasavada scoring 104 off 88 deliveries as a batting line-up without power-hitters struggled to maintain the required run rate. They could manage 367 in their 50 overs.

Brief scores: Punjab 424/5 in 50 overs (Abhishek Sharma 170, Prabhsimran Singh 125, Anmol Malhotra 48 n.o) bt Saurashtra 367 in 50 overs (Arpit Vasavada 104, Harvik Desai 59; Sanvir Singh 3/37) by 57 runs
