Vidit's game was the only one in the open section at the Candidates to produce a decisive result in Round 9. 17-year-old D Gukesh and 18-year-old Praggnanandhaa played out a draw that keeps Gukesh at the top of the open standings with Pragg just half a point behind! Meanwhile, R Vaishali was handed a resounding defeat by Tan Zhongyi in their game at the 2024 Candidates tournament. The 22-year-old Indian was forced to resign after just 21 moves against Tan. Humpy held Kateryna Lagno to a draw in the women's section. While Ian Nepomniachtchi managed to salvage a draw from a losing position against Alireza Firouzja, Fabiano Caruana was also held by Nijat Abasov.
