Lakshya Sen vs Shi Yu Qi Live, Badminton World Championships HIGHLIGHTS: Just over a year since his heartbreaking fourth-placed finish at the Paris Olympics, Lakshya Sen's return to the same venue at the 2025 BWF World Championships ended in defeat on Monday. The Indian star faced a tough opener against top seed Shi Yu Qi, put up a good fight across both games but the Chinese shuttler's class came through in clutch situations. Lakshya lost 17-21, 19-21 in 54 minutes. Lakshya, currently ranked 21, would have been hoping to pull off an upset against Shi, who is the favourite to clinch an elusive World Championships gold for himself. The 24-year-old from Almora, who claimed a bronze at the 2021 edition in Huelva, has struggled for results on the tour this year but showed some glimpses of good form at the Macau Open recently where he reached the semifinal. But ultimately, his low rank meant he had to play such a good player so early and it ended up in defeat. In the head-to-head, Shi now leads 4-1. The Chinese world No.1, in red-hot form with three Super 1000 titles this season, had beaten Lakshya in three games in Indonesia earlier this year. Read more about Lakshya's defeat here. PV Sindhu, India's most successful athlete at the event with five medals, and HS Prannoy, the country's most recent medallist after his triumph in Copenhagen, begin their campaigns on Tuesday with winnable fixtures. Sindhu takes on world No 69 Kaloyana Nalbantova ahead of sterner tests to come. Prannoy, who has now slid down to world No 34, takes on Finnish world No 48 Joakim Oldorff.
