Graft: Pune police officer booked for demanding Rs 5 lakhs from MSEDCL staffer

The Pune unit of state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) has booked a police sub-inspector for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs from a staffer of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL).

ACB said the accused police sub inspector Dattatraya Shegar is currently attached to Chandan Nagar police station. As per the ACB, an offence of theft of electricity meter was lodged at Chandan Nagar police station against the MSEDCL staffer. Shegar allegedly told the staffer that he was probing the theft case, and demanded Rs 5 lakhs from him for not taking action against him.

After ACB received a complaint from the MSEDCL staffer, its sleuths verified the complaint on May 10. Shegar was found to have demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakhs initially and after negotiations, he agreed upon Rs 3 lakhs.

The ACB lodged an FIR against him on Friday.
