Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi will provide the Congress’ campaign in poll-bound Haryana with a big boost on Monday with his “Vijay Sankalp Yatra”.
Gandhi is also likely to be joined by party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Sharing the schedule of his programme for Monday, the Haryana Congress said Gandhi will launch the second leg of his poll campaign from Naraingarh in Ambala district by addressing a public meeting.
After the public meeting, the “yatra” will pass through Yamunanagar district and then through Mullana in Ambala. It will also pass through Rajeev Chowk, Saha, Ambala, Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk, Shahabad, and Babain, Ladwa in Kurukshetra, where party workers will welcome Gandhi at various points. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has been fielded by the ruling BJP from Ladwa.
Gandhi is likely to campaign in the state till canvassing ends in the evening of October 3. He will be joined by Congress leaders from the state, including former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja.
All 90 seats in the state will go to the polls in a single phase on October 5, the results of which will be announced on October 8.
Leaders of the MVA, which comprises the Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) and the Congress, will meet on Monday and October 1 to finalise the seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Assembly polls, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said on Sunday.
“We are going to fight the polls as MVA. There is no difference of opinion on this issue. Our talks are on,” he said.
He also said the MVA is not opposed to the Mahayuti government’s Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana as CM Eknath Shinde repeatedly claims. “We will make it better when we come to power,” Patole said.
The Supreme Court on Monday will hear a plea of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal challenging a Delhi High Court order that refused to quash a defamation case against them over remarks on the alleged deletion of the names of 30 lakh voters belonging to some communities from the electoral rolls.
The AAP leaders have challenged the September 2 order of the Delhi High Court that refused to quash the proceedings against them and other AAP leaders over their remarks about the alleged deletion of voters’ names, saying the imputations prima facie lowered the reputation of BJP.
The High Court had said the imputations were prima facie “defamatory”, with an intention of vilifying the BJP and gaining undue political mileage.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness will pay a four-day visit to India beginning Monday to solidify bilateral ties in a range of key areas including trade and investment.
It will be the first ever bilateral visit of a Prime Minister of Jamaica to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Holness have met several times on the sidelines of multilateral meetings.
“This visit is expected to bolster bilateral relations, enhance economic cooperation, and solidify the longstanding bonds between Jamaica and India,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, announcing the trip.
Holness will hold delegation-level talks with PM Modi and call on President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
It said a number of MoUs are expected to be signed during the visit of the Jamaican prime minister that would give a fillip to bilateral cooperation.
