The Delhi High Court on Wednesday will hear a plea seeking the constitution of a high-level committee to probe the Rajendra Nagar coaching institute flooding incident that resulted in the death of three civil services aspirants.
In context: Shreya Yadav from Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Navin Dalwin from Ernakulam in Kerala succumbed to death after the basement of a building housing the coaching institute was flooded after heavy rain on July 27. Police on July 28 arrested the owner and the coordinator of the coaching centre, Rau’s IAS Study Circle. The police have booked them for culpable homicide and other charges.
The Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday constituted a committee to investigate the incident and identify causes, assign responsibility, recommend measures, and propose policy changes. The panel will submit its report within 30 days.

New Punjab, Rajasthan governors to take oath
Haribhau Bagade and Gulab Chand Kataria, the newly-appointed Governors of Rajasthan and Punjab respectively, will take oath of office on Wednesday.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday said he will welcome Katariaand will work in coordination with him. Kataria replaced Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Punjab as part of major gubernatorial appointments announced on Saturday night. “The president has appointed the new governor. We will welcome the new governor. We will work together,” Mann said.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from the Raj Bhavan in Jaipur, Bagade will take oath in a ceremony at 4 pm. Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court, Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, will administer the oath. Bagade will replace Kalraj Mishra as the Governor of Rajasthan.
Manipur Assembly session to begin
The session of the Manipur Assembly will commence on Wednesday, days after Chief Minister N Biren Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Last week, Manipur government spokesperson Sapam Ranjan said the decision to convene the session was adopted during the Cabinet meeting as one of the 43 listed agendas.
Ranjan said the meeting also adopted several resolutions, including significant legislative amendments like revision of the Manipur Private School Registration and Regulation Act of 2017 and the DMU Act to address Vice Chancellor selection and tenure.
Pensioners’ body to hold protest demanding hike
Pensioners body “EPS-95 National Agitation Committee” on Monday said its members will stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Wednesday to press their demand for a minimum monthly pension of Rs 7,500.
The members of the EPS-95 National Agitation Committee, outraged by the government’s failure to address their concerns, have planned a decisive protest at Jantar Mantar on July 31. Around 7.8 million pensioners have been demanding an increase in the minimum pension for the past eight years, but the government has not addressed their demands,” the committee said in a statement.
EPS-95 National Agitation Committee members include around 78 lakh retired pensioners and 7.5 crore working employees of industrial sectors.
