The monsoon session of Madhya Pradesh assembly ended abruptly on Wednesday with heated exchanges between members of the ruling BJP and the Opposition over the Vyapam scam. This was the third successive session, after the 2014 monsoon session and the 2015 budget session, that ended abruptly over the scam.

The July 20-31 session ended on the third day itself after the supplementary budget and key legislation like the vexatious legislation (prevention) and labour laws (amendment) bills were passed amid sloganeering and war of words between MLAs from the ruling party and the Opposition.

The Congress MLAs demanded Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s resignation to facilitate impartial probe in the scam and squatted in the well of the House. The ruling party MLAs insisted that the CBI probe into the issue was already on.

As BJP MLA Narendra Singh Kushwah was speaking during Question Hour, BSP MLAs started raising slogans. At this, Kushwah reportedly lost his cool and pointed towards his footwear.

BSP MLAs alleged that he had insulted them and demanded an apology.

The din continued and half an hour later, the House had transacted all important business slated for the session.
