Jagan asks ministers,MLAs not to embarrass Cong high command

“Such acts will not let our leader Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s soul rest in peace. We all should observe restraint in the interest of the party and have faith in Sonia Gandhi,” Jagan said in the statement which was released from the Chief Minister’s Office here.

He reminded the people that his father and late Chief Minister had full blessings of Sonia Gandhi as well as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in implementing many welfare and development schemes in the state.

“Congress high command is fully aware of the situation in Andhra Pradesh. We all should abide by any decision taken by the high command in its full wisdom. Our responsibility is to strengthen the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and not cause any

embarrassment to the high command,” the Kadapa MP said.

Two ministers,Mohammed Ahmedullah Syed and Konda Surekha– and at least six MLAs,including five from Kadapa district,threatened to quit their posts if Jagan was not made the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile,Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas too has asked those who threatened to resign not to speak anything on the issue.

“Remember that you have not won the election on your own strength. You are all elected on the Congress party ticket,” Srinivas remarked at a press conference here on Wednesday.

He cautioned the leaders against efforts to disturb the party and precipitate the issues.

“I appeal to the party leaders not to resort to any undisciplined activity. Otherwise,we have to view it seriously and take it to the notice of the high command. We shall not tolerate any attempt to weaken the party,” the PCC chief asserted.

He said many leaders had spoken many things “out of emotion” after the death of Rajasekhara Reddy.

“Now,we have to reconcile to the situation and make the atmosphere congenial so that the high command can take appropriate decision (on the succession issue),” Srinivas added.
