In a bid to showcase its soft power and make inroads into its ever-growing film-viewing market, India is hoping to ink a film co-production agreement with China during Chinese President Xi Jinping's three-day visit. Piloted by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry, the agreement envisages enhancing the presence of the Indian films in China by setting up a framework of cooperation in film production between the two countries. The move, the government hopes, would facilitate the opening up of China's market to Indian films. “Once signed, the agreement shall entitle films made under this umbrella to be regarded as national films in both the countries. This will entitle them to support and benefits like tax incentives, etc in both the countries,” government sources said. “Both producers will jointly own the copyright proportionate to their respective contributions and will jointly share the market revenues,” sources added. India already has similar film co-production agreements with Canada, Germany, France, Spain and few more countries.
