Election Commission waits for report on Ajit Pawar

EC is awaiting a report from state CEO over his reported remarks threatening voters with snapping of water supply if they did not vote for his cousin Supriya Sule.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar could be in trouble as the the Election Commission is awaiting a report from the state Chief Electoral Officer over his reported remarks threatening voters with snapping of water supply if they did not vote for his cousin Supriya Sule.

“Yes, we are awaiting a report from the CEO, Maharashtra, and the district electoral officer of Baramati on the reported remarks. Any further action will be taken after examining the CD and going through the report,” a senior EC official told said.

He said while the state CEO will forward the CD of the remarks, the district poll authorities will send a detailed report to the EC.

Ajit Pawar is alleged to have warned residents of a village in Baramati on Wednesday night that he would cut off their water supply if they did not vote for Sule, sitting NCP and daughter of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

AAP candidate Suresh Khopde had reported the issue to the local police.

BJP condemed Ajit Pawar’s statement and asked EC to take note of it.

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said here that he had made such “provocative remarks earlier also. Sharad Pawar should reply and let the EC take note of this.”

Baramati was among the 19 constituencies which went for poll in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections yesterday.

The Commission had recently expressed its displeasure over Sharad Pawar’s ‘remove the ink and vote twice’ remarks made in Navi Mumbai.
