How BJP is planning to counter Opposition on ceasefire with Pakistan, US role in truce

A party leader said that key to countering the Opposition’s narrative would be communicating the “ongoing” nature of Operation Sindoor and the capability of a “Naya Bharat” to strike at “the heart of Pakistan” as well as India’s “new normal” of taking the heat to terror camps deep across the border, along with the reiteration of “non-military actions”.

“The decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, discontinue trade with Pakistan, prohibit Pakistani actors from working in India and change in approach to tackle terror on Indian soil, as pointed out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the nation on Monday, will be highlighted,” a source said, adding that state units would be pressed into action to spread the BJP’s message at the grassroots level.

Sources said North East Delhi MP and Bhojpuri singer Manoj Tiwari has prepared a song – likely to be released in the coming days – to underline the valour of the armed forces, India’s “never-before retaliation” under Modi’s leadership, and the “response” to countries like Turkey and Azerbaijan, who backed Pakistan and supplied drones to it. Currently, the party is also on an 11-day, nationwide “Tiranga Yatra” to highlight the success of Operation Sindoor.

Another source pointed out that the party will seek to counter the Congress which, after the announcement of a ceasefire on Saturday, has been invoking former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s “strong actions” during the 1971 India-Pakistan war to slam the government’s “meek response”.

“A lot of false propaganda is being spread regarding how India’s actions under the Modi government have been pale in comparison to those taken by Gandhi. We will make people aware about the several lacunae in that narrative,” the source said, adding that the action taken under Operation Sindoor was the most precise that “any government in the world” could have taken in a conflict involving two nuclear powers.

On the other hand, a leader admitted that the BJP’s next challenge would be to “dispel the myth surrounding US intervention in brokering the peace” and said the party had begun highlighting past instances of “US interventions” under various Congress-led governments.

“We will counter the Congress’s claims and question its so-called support to the government while underlining that the issue of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) is a bilateral one, with no space for mediation by a third party,” the leader said.
