After pressing the BJP leadership for more than eight months on the issue,B S Yeddyurappa may finally return as Karnataka chief minister.
The belligerent leader was summoned here this evening amidst hints that a meeting of the BJPs core committee tomorrow would announce the decision. Yeddyurappa will be holding talks with BJP president Nitin Gadkari,L K Advani,Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj.
The move significantly came the day the BJP lost the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypoll by over 40,000 votes. It was a seat vacated by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, and the defeat reiterated Yeddyurappas importance for the BJP in Karnataka. He is a Lingayat leader and the community accounts for 18 per cent of the voters.
Sources said a positive signal had been sent to Yeddyurappa yesterday itself by Gadkari and Jaitley, following which he ended his boycott of the budget session of the Karnataka Assembly. Jaitley was asked to study the cases pending against Yeddyurappa and his family members, and was believed to have concluded that the charges against him were not substantial.
