Students of Tripura would benefit even if they move outside the state through National Educational Policy, said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday.
Saha was speaking at a ceremony to mark the formal implementation of the National Education Policy-2020 at Town Hall in Agartala.
“Earlier, people from outside India used to come to study here because we had Nalanda University. With time, we started going to countries outside India for study. Prime Minister Narendra Modi desired to launch a policy based on Indian culture and heritage and to revive this, he launched the National Education Policy,” said Saha.
He added that Karnataka was the first state to have adopted the policy followed by Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam. “The policy will also be adopted in the schools after detailed research,” he said.
“With implementation of the National Education Policy, there will be one pattern of education throughout the country. I am happy that our students, even if they go outside the state for studies, will never feel that they studied a different pattern,” Saha said, adding that there will be a scope of employment unlike in previous times, “when people would have to think about their next step after completion of graduation”.
On academic achievements of the state under the BJP-led government’s tenure, he said Tripura was turned into an educational hub with a host of universities like the National Law University, National Forensic Science University and a few private universities.
Setting a target of 2030, Saha said there might be some problems with the policy initially but the results will be seen at a later date. “We don’t have a dearth of quality. Earlier, our education was region-specific and we had to face problems or needed to give additional effort if we went to the national level. Now, overall education will be one and students will never face problems outside the state due to the policy,” he said.
“We all know that the 10+2 module will be changed in the schools. We also heard that the four-year-long degree courses will also be introduced here,” he said.
