He wrote to the state home secretary, director-general of police and the Assembly speaker.
Speaking to reporters at Kailashahar in Unakoti district, he alleged that one Abdul Mannan and his associates were planning to kill him.
“An audio recording has emerged implicating an individual by the name of Abdul Mannan, son of Abdul Matin, and his associates in the 2003 assault on me. Disturbingly, I have received credible information that Abdul Mannan and his associates are currently orchestrating a fresh attempt on my life. They intend to attack and potentially kill me, either at my residence in Kailashahar or my residence in Agartala,” the Kailashahar MLA wrote in his letter.
The 2003 incident allegedly took place during an election campaign at Baburbazar in the Assembly segment and led to the death of his personal security guard, he told reporters.
“I earnestly request that a thorough inquiry be initiated into the involvement of Abdul Mannan and his associates. Additionally, I hold the distinguished institution of the Tripura Legislative Assembly in the highest regard and recognise its solemn commitment to ensuring my well-being and security,” he further wrote.
Mannan is said to be from Govindapur village in Kailashahar.
Sinha’s letter further said he had angered a mafia group involved in the “negotiation business” after he sought Chief Minister Manik Saha’s intervention in the matter. He said he had approached officials such as the public works department executive engineer against the mafia that “monopolised” all tender work originating from the executive engineer’s office in the Kumarghat division.
Police said Sinha had written a letter to the DGP. “We have not registered any complaint yet,” said assistant inspector-general of police Jyotishman Das Chowdhury.
Earlier this week, Sinha vented his frustration against state Congress leaders over their strategy for the coming Assembly bypolls. He said the party unit was not safe in the hands of those running it.
