TIPRA Motha has lodged a complaint with cyber police in Tripura after party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s Facebook page was hacked.
According to the complaint lodged on Thursday by the Opposition party’s media coordinator, Nitish Reang, the Facebook page Bubagra had 31,000 followers. It is an unofficial fan page that he had run for one and a half years.
“I request you to kindly take appropriate legal action from your end and either help me recover the page or get it deleted to avoid any further issues and I am hopeful that you would initiate appropriate enquiry to catch the conspirators involved and looking forward for your kind cooperation and support,” Reang said in his complaint letter.
In the letter, the Mota leader wrote that he got a message from an unknown user asking him to fill up a form for compliance purposes. The user posed as someone from Facebook’s support page. As he clicked on the share link, Reang was removed as the admin of the page. When he tried to contact the Facebook support team from his personal account, he did not receive any help.
“The hacker didn’t post or use the page for many days but on 6th and 8th Nov.2023 obscene content was posted as a story from the said page…It caught the eyes of many well-wishers and followers of this ‘Bubagra’ Facebook page of Maharaja Pradyot Bikram Manikya and it is clear that the intentions of hacker is to defame our beloved Maharaja. It is not a mere random hacking attempt but a conspiracy to hamper his image in public at large,” he wrote, adding that attempts were made to hack the party’s other social media pages as well.
