Banker Siddhartha Saha from Tripura who had earlier won the India Book of Records for creating a 3D miniature of a quilling artwork with papers has now made it to the coveted Guinness Book of World Records for the largest display of quilled hearts consisting of 25,551 items.
Taking to social media on Thursday evening, the 33-year-old wrote, “It is official now and the feeling is somewhat lacking words to express, so isn’t it better to see yourself? All those sleepless nights and never-ending doubts about myself that will I be able to? Yes, I’m holding all the answers now and I’m indebted to each and everyone for supporting me constantly. Thank you.”
Saha, who identifies himself as “born with hemophilia” on his social media page, started working with quilling papers since 2012, creating unique designs something on the lines of origami but different in their manifestation.
His interest peaked during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 and it paved the way to showcase his hidden talent before the country.
Without losing time, he made his first attempt at India Book of Records, where he presented a quilling 3D miniature artwork, and it recognised his creative skill.
Quilling sticks, quilling strips and glue are the minimum materials required in this artwork, he said and explained that the quilling stick is used for quilling the paper before giving it to different shapes like flowers, trees, 2D, 3D etc.
“I never thought seriously about quilling papers before lockdown. This was my first attempt in the India Book of Records that brought recognition to me,” Saha told reporters after clinching the India Book of Records.
After applying for the Guinness Book of World Records last year, Saha spared over four hours for his quilling artworks. Once he got the approval, he started making 20,000 quilling hearts for the three-day exhibition which was held at Lalit Kala Academy from May 27.
After his office hours, he starts working with the quilling papers around 9 pm which mostly continues up to 3 am.
