(Representational/ANI)The Manipur cabinet Thursday night decided to constitute a cabinet sub-committee to oversee the rehabilitation and resettlement of people displaced by the ongoing ethnic violence in the state.
The cabinet sub-committee has been constituted under Rule 13 of the Rules of Business of the Manipur Government.
The sub-committee is headed by PWD Minister K Govindas Singh. Relief and Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai, Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, and Transport Minister Khashim Vashum are the other members of the committee. Moreover, IAS officer Gyanprakash Huirem has been appointed as the member secretary of the sub-committee. The sub-committee shall report to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The cabinet sub-committee has been tasked with identifying the grievances of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) staying in relief camps, supervising measures for the resettlement and rehabilitation of IDPs, and supervising the identification of land for temporary relocation of IDPs.

Jiribam, which is home to several communities including Meiteis and Kukis, was relatively calm when the rest of the state was marred with violence. However, over 70 houses, two police outposts, and a forest beat office were torched in Jiribam on June 7.
Meanwhile, the cabinet has also instructed deputy commissioners to complete the assessment of damage owing to the recent floods in the Valley within one week. It has approved Rs 10,000 per flood-affected family as immediate relief. A decision has also been taken to conduct elections to autonomous district councils, panchayats, and municipalities in September.
