(Representational/File) The Border Security Force (BSF) Tuesday recovered a huge cache of drugs worth Rs 1.11 crore from a train passenger who was travelling from Assam to Tripura, officials said. The suspect, however, managed to slip away taking advantage of the crowd of passengers, they said.
The BSF said in a statement that the special operation on Tuesday afternoon the was launched based on intelligence inputs and the team carried out a search in coach D-4 of train No 15664 going from Silchar in Assam to Agartala in Tripura.

“The estimated value of seized brown sugar is approximately Rs 1.11 crore in the international market,” the BSF said.
The BSF and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) signed a Joint Record of Discussion on December 9 last year, after a three-day commander-level coordination meeting on a host of issues, including curbing border crimes, smuggling, human trafficking, and trans-border crimes.
The conference included discussions on curbing insurgent activities, trans-border crimes such as smuggling of contraband items like drugs, and narcotic substances, border violations, BSF Tripura frontier Inspector General Sumit Sharan had said after the discussion.
