Steven Moffat says he is surprised by a surging debate on the sexuality of character Bill Potts from the show Doctor Who and feels the “fuss” must stop. “It is important we don’t make a big fuss of this in a children’s show that communicates directly with children. You don’t want young kids who regard themselves as boring and normal and happen to fancy their own gender, we don’t want them to feel as if they are some kind of special case,” Moffat told an audience, according to the BBC.

Last week, actress Pearl Mackie, who plays Doctor Who’s new companion, Potts, confirmed that her character will be openly gay.
