HARARE, FEB 5: Zimbabwe’s Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett came through a five-set thriller against Rick Leach and Alex O’Brien on Saturday to lead the United States 2-1 and set up what would be the country’s biggest Davis Cup victory on home soil.

Leach served a double fault on match-point in the fifth set after 3-1/2 hours of play to hand the hosts a 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 win.Earlier, on Friday, Zimbabwe levelled with the US after Byron Black beat Davis Cup debutant Chris Woodruff 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, 6-2.

Zimbabwe’s victory on Saturday sets up the tantalising prospect of the nation’s greatest triumph on home soil in their 24-year Davis Cup history. All now rests on Sunday’s reverse singles. World No 1 Andre Agassi takes on Byron Black in the opening match and Wayne Black is due to play Chris Woodruff.
