The International Cricket Council ICC on Thursday confirmed that Zimbabwe would not take part in Test cricket for the remainder of 2004.

ICC president Ehsan Mani told a news conference at Lord8217;s: 8220;They will continue to play one-day cricket as a pathway for the players8221;.

8220;The dispute between the Zimbabwe Cricket Union ZCU and the players is a worrying issue. It should have been resolved in Zimbabwe.8221;

Zimbabwe agreed to postpone their remaining 2004 Tests earlier this month after the ZCU became embroiled in a bitter row with 15 of the country8217;s leading white players over team selection. The players made themselves unavailable and were then sacked, leaving Zimbabwe with a side unable to compete at the top level.

The plan is for Zimbabwe to resume Test cricket in with a Bangladesh tour, Mani said.
