Pushing for dialogue to resolve the Kashmir problem, PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday said his earlier comment that the issue be kept for future generation did not mean that it should not be settled. The two countries could even “agree to disagree” as they carried forward the dialogue on the Kashmir issue, Zardari told reporters after meeting visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.“My contention is let’s work together and we can use dialogue (to resolve Kashmir),” Zardari said.He explained that his earlier comment that Kashmir should be set aside for a future generation did not mean that the matter should not be resolved.Asked about US President George W Bush’s comment that the time is ripe for India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue, Zardari said, “it is a very good omen to have the world with you.” Mukherjee said he had a “very good” meeting with Zardari. He said “all my interactions are going on very well.” Zardari said the Pakistan Peoples Party had “always had historical relationships with the Congress party and India”.“I have always maintained that and we intend to continue these ties. That was the Benazir doctrine for India-Pakistan relation, which started with her father in Shimla and continued when she became Prime Minister,” he said.Recalling late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Ganhdhi’s visit to Pakistan in 1988, Zardari said he intended to visit India.PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar said Zardari and Mukherjee had exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.Mukherjee also condoled the assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and paid tribute to her leadership.
