India’s ace speedster Zaheer Khan is thrilled that Indians fought against the mighty Aussies to square the Test series Down Under.
Zaheer and Ashish Nehra are here in Chennai to train at the MRF Pace Foundation to train under Dennis Lillee. Zaheer said the Aussie tour was long and tough but he learnt a lot there as a medium-pacer. He felt sad that he had to quit half-way during the tour due to injury. ‘‘There were lot of positives that we derived from the Aussie tour. Our youngsters (Pathan and Balaji) bowled well in the absence of seniors. They proved that India has a good fast bowling future’’. Zaheer, who suffered a hamstring injury in Australia, is slowly recovering. ‘‘I bowled a week back at the nets and was not happy with it. Today I bowled well in the nets and I an feeling much better,’’ said Zaheer.
Ashish Nehra, recuperating from an ankle injury, said he made it a point to be in Chennai to train under Lillee whom he regards as his ‘guru’. Nehra felt sad that he had to join the injured list and said he was slowly getting back his rhythm. ‘‘I had made a comeback after a lay-off of nearly seven to eight months. One cannot straightaway comeback and bowl flat out. I have recovered and I feel I have no problem with the ankle,’’ said Nehra.
