Youth ‘stripped’ for marrying without elders’ permission

A youth was paraded naked in a village in Halol taluka on Saturday for marrying a girl of his choice without the sanction of village elders, police said today. Four persons have been arrested in the case, they added.

According to a complaint filed with the Halol police, 22-year-old Dinesh Rathod was beaten up and paraded naked in the village square for marrying Apeksha Rathod, a girl from the village. Rathod and Apeksha got married despite opposition from the girl’s family and the couple moved out of the village.

When Rathod came to the village on Saturday to collect something from his house, relatives of the girl, along with a few villagers, came to Dinesh’s house and started beating him, police said Dinesh was later made to strip and taken to the village square, where he was made to sit for sometime before being rescued by village elders.
