It8217;s two weeks since the floodlights were installed at the Ferozeshah Kotla. But, after their first practice match on Monday, it was difficult to say whether they will be an advantage or disadvantage for the Delhi Daredevils.
At the end of the match, it was clear that many of the players, particularly first-timers, were shaken. The youngsters found playing cricket under lights is not a walk in the park.
Players such as Yogesh Nagar and Tejasvi Yadav looked ill at ease when having to stare into the floodlights while fielding.
Then, the lights at two towers went off, plunging part of the Kotla in darkness before officials scurried to fiddle with the switches.
8220;This was something we didn8217;t anticipate because all these days it never happened. Now we will be extra careful,8221; said a DDCA official.
TA Sekar, who manages cricket operations of the team, was a worried man. Speaking to The Indian Express, he said that the inexperience of some players showed.
8220;I know this is an area of concern because the youngsters had never played under lights. But I8217;m sure they will be able to work it out in the next few days.
8220;In order to make them get used to the lights, we will have lights installed for the nets sessions as well,8221; he said.
Medium-pacer Yo Mahesh was confident that the players would get used to the lights after a couple matches.
8220;Yes, some youngsters did find it difficult adjusting to the lights. But that8217;s understandable.8221;
