While Deputy PM L.K. Advani has revived his yatra for a third time, Karnataka Chief Minister S.M. Krishna is gearing up for his second yatra. Krishna, who undertook Panchajanya Yatra five years ago as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, will launch Vijaya Dudumbi Yatra from March 12, the day Advani’s Bharat Uday Yatra enters the state.

According to sources in the Congress party, the yatra was earlier scheduled for March 8, but was postponed due to the CM’s prior engagements. ‘‘We will finalise the dates in a couple days. As of now, it is likely to start on March 12,’’ they said.

Krishna’s yatra will focus on the achievements of the Congress in the state in the past four and-a-half years. Five specially designed Swaraj Mazda 16-seater AC buses will hit the roads on March 12. Banners displaying the achievements of the Congress will adorn the buses seeking people’s mandate for another term.

Krishna and KPCC president Janardhan Poojari will have a bus each for themselves. Other leaders will use these buses for campaigning. The buses have also been provided with a special pedestal to lift the leaders up while addressing the public.

‘‘It is difficult for the Chief Minister to cover the entire state. He will visit only key constituencies,’’ sources said, adding that senior leaders like H.K. Patil, Mallikarjuna Kharge and Dharam Singh are likely to lead the yatra in the northern districts. The first leg of the yatra will cover key constituencies that will go for polls on April 20.
