The judicial inquiry constituted by the J-K government to probe the boat capsize in Wular lake today formally started its investigations.

On May 10, 20 students and two teachers were killed when an overcrowded Navy boat carrying schoolchildren on a joyride capsized in the lake.

Parents of around 12 schoolchildren killed in the accident today presented themselves before the judicial committee and furnished details about the tragedy along with some supportive documents to the inquiry officer.

The J-K government has appointed District and Sessions Judge Syed Tariq Ahmed Naqshbandi as the inquiry officer to probe the incident. The parents, according to sources, have accused Navy men posted in Wular with negligence.

The judicial inquiry, constituted by the J-K government, will be probing the reasons that led to the tragic accident which sparked violent protests in Kashmir. Moreover, the committee would also identify the people whose negligence resulted in the boat capsize.

To avoid any such mishap in future, the commission will be also suggesting remedial measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
