India would immensely benefit from a multilateral partnership on hydrogen energy, and countries should work together for the promotion and development of hydrogen as an alternative fuel, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman K.C. Pant said.8216;8216;It is clear that energy consumption across the globe would continue to increase over the next 10 years. Despite measures taken for its conservation, an energy crisis is inevitable,8217;8217; Pant told reporters here.

Pant asked the ministry for non-conventional energy sources and department of science and technology to utilise the R038;D facilities available for the purpose. Mentioning about the Commission8217;s initiative on the issue, he said a group has already been formed under the chairmanship of N.K. singh, member, Planning Commission, and officials from MNES, DST and representatives from Teri and other concerned organisations to prepare a roadmap.

On the International Partnership for a Hydrogen Energy held in Washington recently, Pant said India8217;s selection as vice-chairman of the ministerial level planning committee 8216;8216;is the recognition of the country8217;s R038;D capabilities and that it will be an important market for energy supply8217;8217;.
