KHARAR, JULY 7: A twenty two-year-old married woman, resident of Chajjumajra colony, under Kharar municipal limits, was allegedly gangraped by four persons here this morning. After committing the heinous crime, the culprits took away the victim’s golden earrings and chain.

Married to a person in Jalandhar about two years back, the victim had been staying at her mother’s place for the last two months.

She said the incident took place at about 7:30 a.m. when she had gone to the nearby fields to answer nature’s call. She said the four accused were already present there and she was overpowered and gagged by them. After committing the crime, the accused beat her up. The victim sustained injuries on several parts of her body and face. She alleged that before fleeing from the spot, the accused also snatched her ear rings and chain and even took away her clothes.

Hearing her cries for help, the colony residents immediately rushed to the spot and followed the culprits. They managed to nab one culprit, Jaswinder Singh, of Badali All Singh village, though three managed to escape. The other accused have been identified as Jagga and Billa, both residents of Chajjumajra village and Harjit Singh of village Ghel, Fatehgarh.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashwani Kapoor, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said the local police have registered a case under sections 354/356/34 of the Indian Penal Code against four accused – Jaswinder Singh, Jagga, Billa and Harjit Singh – on the complaint of the victim. He said no arrest has been made so far and investigation are on.
