A 27-year-old woman lawyer, who was given security by the Madras High Court in 2005, has been missing since last month after security was withdrawn unofficially.Kavitha, a resident of Poraiyur at Mettur Taluk in Salem district, practises at the High Court and the Mettur Subordinate Court. She has reportedly not been spotted after June 25.Her sister, Amudha, moved the High Court with a habeas corpus petition on July 17 seeking for direction to the Home Secretary and the DGP to trace Kavitha’s whereabouts and produce her in court.According to Kavitha’s relatives, she came to Chennai on June 25 to file a writ petition but did not return to Mettur.She reportedly faced life threats in several cases and contempt of court petitions had been filed by her against the police. Kavitha had moved the High Court seeking CRPF protection in 2005, her relatives said.Although the High Court directed the DGP to do the needful, the round-the-clock security, provided for the last year and a half, was withdrawn recently, her relatives said.The Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) has condemned Karumalaikoodal police inspector Thangaraj following reports that her security was withdrawn.
