MIDNAPUR, July 29: The 41 deportees from Maharashtra, including 13 Bangladeshis, were rearrested tonight and remanded to jail custody after being produced at the court of judicial magistrate P N Sinha here.
Earlier on Tuesday, the zari workers from Maharashtra were granted bail by the fifth additional judicial magistrate of Midnapur subdivision court, L K Das, under Rule 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr PC).
District Superintendent of Police Manoj Malavya arrested the batch of 19 men, 19 women and three children after they were freshly chargesheeted according to the deportation law of Maharashtra, the SP said.
Today Sinha stayed the operation of Rule 41 CrPC and ordered their rearrest.
The magistrate has fixed July 31 for reviewing the case.
The deportees were branded as `Bangladeshi infiltrators’ by the Mumbai police and sent to West Bengal for deportation to Bangladesh.
The zari workers were taken off the Howrah-bound Kurla Express at Kharagpur railway station on July 24 and kept in GRPcustody.
They were formally handed over by the Mumbai police to the Superintendent of Police on Monday.
