Woman says husband sold her for Rs 1 lakh

She claimed she was drugged and found herself in a new home in Susner.

A woman in Indore has alleged that her husband sold her for Rs 1.10 lakh and she could return to her relatives only when the buyer was repaid the amount.

The victim alleged that she was sold a month ago to one Ram Singh,a businessman from Susner in Shajapur district,by her husband of 10 years. She claimed she was drugged and found herself in a new home in Susner.

She told Madhya Pradesh Commission for Women Commission member Snehlata Upadhyay that Singh forced himself on her repeatedly and released her only when her uncle repaid the amount.

The victim,a mother of two,alleged when she went to register a complaint at Malharganj police station in Indore,she was turned away.

When The Sunday Express contacted the in-charge of the police station M I Qureshi,he accused the woman of lying and being part of a gang.

Qureshi alleged she had been married under different names. Her latest in-laws in Maharashtra,where she was married five months ago,have supplied photographs of the marriage,he claimed.

The police officer alleged that her gang “sold or married” her to unsuspecting customers,and a few days later she would escape.

Ensure early LS polls: BJP to Mamata

The Opposition BJP Saturday said Mamata Banerjee took the right step in threatening the Congress to go it alone in Bengal and asked her to ensure early Lok Sabha polls.

“She has taken the right decision… to contest alone in Bengal. Now she should ensure there are early Lok Sabha polls. She should free people from the burden they are suffering under the UPA government,” BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain said.

The NDA is ready for mid-term polls “to provide relief to the common man”,he added.
