Vadodara saves Rs 3.5 crore in street light consumption

VMC has taken action for energy efficiency in street light services.

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has taken action for energy efficiency in street light services and has been able to save energy worth Rs 3.5 crore in a year.

VMC commissioner Ashwini Kumar said by implementing the international level lighting and intelligent street light controllers with GSM monitoring the yearly energy bill of the VMC is reduced to Rs 10 crore from Rs 13.50 crore.

VMC chairman got the national award for ‘Energy Conservation in Street Lighting’ by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) at a function held in Delhi on Friday,from deputy chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

Total area of coverage of VMC is 160 sq km and its total population is over 16 Lakh for which 1,691 km of street lighting is covered in Vadodara.
