Three days after four blasts left at least 10 people dead in different parts of the state,Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday expressed apprehension that the ULFA would make attempts to disrupt the Lok Sabha elections this month.

Gogoi also said he had information that the ULFA had links with “a couple of political parties”,but admitted he had no proof whatsoever to substantiate this. “I won’t like to name these parties. But one can easily make out by analysing which parties have not condemned the ULFA by name for the recent violent incidents,” he said.

The CM said the ULFA had become a puppet in the hands of anti-India forces based in Bangladesh and Pakistan, and that the Government had inputs of some militants sneaking into Assam from Bangladesh to disrupt the elections. Gogoi claimed that the overall law and order situation in Assam was still “far better” than what it used to be during the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) rule of 1996-2001.
